Government announces decision to set up a Development Corporation for Greater Cambridge

Decision provides clarity on new national-local body to support infrastructure delivery and sustainable growth
Today, Wednesday 3 June, the Government announced its decision to establish a centrally led Development Corporation for Greater Cambridge. The new Development Corporation will give Greater Cambridge the powers and certainty to deliver infrastructure-first growth at scale.

The decision provides clarity for communities, businesses and investors on the Government's plans to create a joint national-local body that can help coordinate the delivery of infrastructure at the scale Greater Cambridge demands, unlock development opportunities and support future growth.

Peter Freeman CBE, Chair of Cambridge Growth Company, said:

“The real work begins now, and we are determined to deliver - making Greater Cambridge not only more economically vibrant, attracting world-class businesses, but more liveable, better connected and a place that genuinely works for all current and future residents.”

The Government will now take forward the Parliamentary process required to establish the new body before any Development Corporation is formally created.
