Government consultation on a Greater Cambridge Development Corporation

The government has today (Wednesday 4 February) launched a public consultation on proposals to establish a Greater Cambridge Development Corporation.
A consultation has launched on proposals to estalish a Development Corporation for Greater Cambridge. This is an opportunity for local communities, businesses and organisations to share their views on how growth in the area should be planned and delivered in the years ahead.

The consultation opened on Wednesday 4 February 2026 and will run for eight weeks, closing on Wednesday 1 April 2026.

Full details of the consultation are available on the Government’s consultation webpage here

What is being consulted on?

The consultation sets out the Government’s case for establishing a Development Corporation for Greater Cambridge and seeks views on the role such a body could play in the future. This includes its proposed responsibilities, the area it would operate in, how its powers might be used, and how local democratic involvement would be reflected in its governance.

The proposals have been developed by Government. The Cambridge Growth Company has shared advice and experience to help inform this work, but the consultation and proposals are the government’s, and responses should be submitted to government.

Have your say

This consultation is a key opportunity for local voices to help shape what happens next. We strongly encourage residents, businesses, community groups and partners across Greater Cambridge - as well as those in surrounding areas - to take part in the consultation and share their views.

All responses will be considered by Government as part of its decision-making.

Responses are preferred via Citizen Space, the government’s online consultation platform. If you are unable to respond via Citizen Space, you can submit your response by email to GCDCconsultation@communities.gov.uk or alternatively by post to:

Cambridge Strategy Unit

Fry Building

What happens next?

After the consultation closes, the Government will review all responses and publish a summary alongside its response, setting out next steps. Any decision to establish a Development Corporation would require further legislation and would be subject to Parliamentary scrutiny.
